Statement from Michael Rushin

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. Michael Rushin, candidate for Pulaski County Judge, issued the following statement on data center regulations:

The County Judge, as the county’s chief executive, has a responsibility to protect residents and taxpayer dollars. That means working with the Quorum Court on clear, legally sound regulations that address the effects of large industrial development without exposing Pulaski County to unnecessary litigation.

My team has been working with a justice of the peace on a proposal that we intend to present through the proper county process. I believe residents deserve practical safeguards, careful legal review, and a clear explanation of what the county can enforce.

I do not support my opponent’s approach to data center regulations. I am concerned that the proposed regulations could expose Pulaski County to avoidable legal challenges, including potential disputes involving the State and AVAIO. Those risks deserve a full and public review before the county acts.

I am neither for nor against data centers as a category. My position is that any major industrial development should be subject to appropriate protections for the people who live here. State law sets the framework within which county government must act. County leaders should use the lawful tools available to protect residents and address local impacts.

The County Judge should work with the Quorum Court, county staff, and legal counsel to develop balanced standards, follow the required process, and give residents a meaningful voice. Protecting our communities and respecting the law are responsibilities that belong together.

Taxpayers should not have to pay for an avoidable legal fight. They also deserve county government that keeps its attention on public safety, roads, services, and the other business before the Quorum Court. Months of political argument should not push those responsibilities aside.
